HILLSBOROUGH, NC (AP) -- An Orange County jury has found Laurence Lovette guilty of murdering University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student body president Eve Carson in 2008.

The jury announced its verdict Tuesday morning, finding Lovette guilty of first-degree murder. He showed no emotion as the verdict was read.

Lovette was sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was not eligible for the death penalty because he was a minor when the crime was committed.

Prosecutors say Lovette and Demario Atwater abducted Carson, of Athens, GA, from her home in March 2008 and forced her to withdraw $1,400 from automated teller machines. Investigators say Carson was shot five times before her body was dumped on a Chapel Hill street.

Atwater pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced to life in prison.

Life for them

Death for Eve Carson. Is something backwards here. These scum should be taken out of the gene pool. Now we get to house them for the rest of their lives. The death penalty should be used for scum just like this. Is it any wonder our system is upside down finacially. NC is raising the gas tax to help pay for these murderers to live a long life at our expence.

While some may say he got what he deserved...

we taxpayers will be footing the bill to keep his sorry ass alive for who knows how many years...enjoying three hots and cot...again, at our expense.

I really don't care that he was a teenage when he committed the crime...he deserved the death penalty. But do to the fact that our legislators have seen fit to not amend the law...we're paying to keep him.

Good riddance to the punk

May he also burn in hell when his time is up on earth...

Good

It won't bring Eve back but perhaps her family can have a measure of peace now. I hope for this young man's sake that he will finally come to his senses about what he did in taking her life and perhaps he can turn his life around and become a model prisoner. But he got what he deserved! At least he can have visitors; Eve's family can't see her.
