HOLDEN BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Firefighters responded to a blaze at 111 Starfish Drive in Holden Beach Saturday around 7:30 a.m. Less than one month ago, the home received water damage while crews worked to put out another fire that destroyed two homes next to it.

Town Mayor Alan Holden, whose real estate company oversees renting the home, says crews quickly put out the flames, and no one was injured. Neighbors we spoke with believe the fire started early Saturday in the kitchen of the home because of repairs that were being done due to water damage from the first fire. Town and fire officials do believe the machinery and work in the home may have been contributing factors, but could not confirm and said the cause is still under investigation.

Chief Douglas Todd of the Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department does not believe the fire was a result of foul play and does not feel the incident is suspicious. Neighbors told us off camera they believe it's just a sad coincidence that the home at 111 Starfish Drive caught fire less than one month after a major fire devastated the homes at 115 and 113 Starfish Drive.

The fire, smoke and heat damages are estimated to be between $25,000 and $30,000.

The Tri-Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Brunswick County Fire Marshal's Office and the Holden Beach Police Department are investigating.

The December sixth fire that destroyed the two adjacent homes and caused water damage to 111 Starfish is still under investigation by Holden Beach Police and the SBI.
