Food Lion closing more than 100 stores, none in our area

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize says it is cutting almost 5,000 jobs in the United States as it closes underperforming stores, according to the Associated Press. No stores in our area will be affected.

Delhaize said Thursday that it is shutting down 113 Food Lion supermarkets, as well as seven Bloom and six Bottom Dollar Food stores within the next 30 days. A distribution center located in Tennessee will also be closed.

Food Lion was founded and is based in Salisbury in Rowan County.

"We believe these actions will enable us to better serve our customers in our markets with high density, while positioning the company for future growth," Ron Hodge, the CEO of Delhaize America, said.

Sorry for the job losses,

Sorry for the job losses, but Food Lion is the last place I would shop anyhow. I don't like the concept of my purchases being tracked by having to use a card or be over charged if I don't.

Most of them do it

Food Lion, Lowes and Harris Teeter all do the same thing with their cards. If you don't want to be tracked, get a card and fill it out with bogus information.
