Utilities back on at Wilmington operations center

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Power, phone and e-mail service has been restored earlier than expected at the City of Wilmington's River Road Operations Center.

Yesterday a crane accidentally knocked over a utility line that severed electrical and fiber optic lines to the center. It included customer phone lines for the city's Solid Waste, Streets and Stormwater services.

Work to restore connections to the city's traffic signal system are underway and expected to be restored by the end of the day. These repairs do not affect operations of traffic lights throughout the city, which are operating as normal.

The city initially did not think power, phone and e-mail would be back until Monday.
