Durham DA may lose job over feud with judge

DURHAM, NC (AP) - Durham County's district attorney faces a judicial inquiry to decide whether she should be removed from office.

A judge is set to consider Monday whether Durham District Attorney Tracey Cline damaged the court system's reputation by making unfounded accusations of misconduct against the county's senior criminal judge.

Cline was suspended last month over accusations she made against Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson as she tried to have him removed from criminal cases involving her office. Cline claimed the judge was part of a wide-ranging conspiracy including defense lawyers, the media and others who are colluding to make her look bad.

Such proceedings to remove an elected DA are very rare in North Carolina, having been held only once before in the 1990s. The inquiry is expected to last several days.
