Smoke south of city is woods fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Wilmington Fire Department says smoke in the city is from a controlled burn in Brunswick County.

A department spokesman says the majority appears to be in the south and eastern sections of the city, but this could change.

The fire department asks citizens not to call for visible light smoke or smelling smoke.

I want my blankie and bottle!!!

Get over yourself, there are other people in the world other than just you. Your rights end where mine begin.

The NCFS has to do the prescibe burning, so it doesn't turn into a woods fire. Get informed and suck it up. Sorry you have to be creative and left to your own devices.

The smoke has been horrendous yesterday and today. Children have had to stay indoors for recess and lunchtime at school today. This is an official act? Can a reporter please get us some more info? This should be illegal and is definitely hazardous to our health.

smoke is worse today in the cape

The smoke is worse today (march 1st). What a beautiful day to have to stay inside because you can't breathe. The winds are very strong today too.

controlled burning?

It sure seemed awfully windy yesterday for a "controlled burn". And the winds were going to pick up all afternoon? I thought they only did those things on calm damp days?

why would they schedule a burn on such a windy day? Brunswick county? I'm in wrightsville beach and can barely stand to be outside! I walked my dog for twenty min and got a headache and had to change cloths because of the smell! This can't be healthy. What poor judgement.

woods fire

FYI It is a controlled burn :)

woods fire

Is it a controlled burn or an out of control forest fire? Reporting that its a "woods fire" isn't reporting much.
