2nd wildfire burns in western NC national forest

ROBBINSVILLE, NC (AP) -- A second wildfire in under a week has broken out in a western North Carolina national forest, but firefighters say both blazes are under control.

The U.S. Forest Service says a 50-acre wildfire was discovered Wednesday in the Nantahala National Forest, four days after a much larger blaze began elsewhere in the region.

The earlier fire has burned more than 725 acres.

Firefighters say both blazes are contained, thanks partly to rain that fell in the area Wednesday.

No damage to any structures or injuries have been reported from either fire.

Investigators are still working to determine the causes of both wildfires.
