NC judge releases terrorism beheading plot suspect

Associated Press

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- A federal judge is allowing the release of a North Carolina woman charged in a plot to behead witnesses who testified against a homegrown terrorist.

Judge Earl Britt in Raleigh said Thursday he will allow bond for 46-year-old Nevine Aly Elshiekh of Raleigh out of respect for her elderly parents. Britt said he would allow Elshiekh's release once her family posted $1 million in cash or property, expected to take about a week.

She could be sent to prison for life if convicted.

Elshiekh was charged with helping to arrange the beheading deaths of three witnesses, who were not harmed. The FBI says Elshiekh was acting on behalf of a man convicted in January of plotting to attack the US Marine Corps base at Quantico, VA, and targets overseas.
