WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Stark Industries is flying into the Port City this weekend as "Iron Man 3" holds an open casting call. Casting coordinators hope Wilmington is as excited as Raleigh was last week.
"We're really excited about this one, and we hope we have a great turn out, because I think Wilmington's very excited about the project," said Tona Dahlquist, extras casting coordinator for the film official known by the code name "Caged Heat," but that movie insiders say is "Iron Man 3."
Independence Mall might look a little bit like a Stark Expo Saturday. Dahlquist, who was also a casting coordinator for "The Hunger Games," says a casting call at a Raleigh mall last week for "Iron Man 3" was bigger than a few of "The Hunger Games" calls combined.
"Everybody was very excited," Dahlquist said. "They had to wait in line, but they were still in high spirits when they got to us, which is really important if you want to be an extra, because it is a lot of waiting around. We found a lot of great looks, and we're hoping to do the same here in Wilmington."
This casting call could bring potential actors and actresses from Independence Mall to Screen Gems Studios, where the shooting of "Iron Man 3" is scheduled to begin this summer.
"It's a project that people will be glad they were a part of, so I hope they'll get behind it and come out and try to get their minute of camera time," Dahlquist said.
Dahlquist says the more people who show up tomorrow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. the better. They want you to bring a snapshot of yourself as they look for more 1,000 extras for "Iron Man 3."
Both Dahlquist and mall officials are expecting more than 1,000 people to show up for the event.
