WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Stark Industries is flying into the Port City this weekend as "Iron Man 3" holds an open casting call. Casting coordinators hope Wilmington is as excited as Raleigh was last week.

"We're really excited about this one, and we hope we have a great turn out, because I think Wilmington's very excited about the project," said Tona Dahlquist, extras casting coordinator for the film official known by the code name "Caged Heat," but that movie insiders say is "Iron Man 3."

Independence Mall might look a little bit like a Stark Expo Saturday. Dahlquist, who was also a casting coordinator for "The Hunger Games," says a casting call at a Raleigh mall last week for "Iron Man 3" was bigger than a few of "The Hunger Games" calls combined.

"Everybody was very excited," Dahlquist said. "They had to wait in line, but they were still in high spirits when they got to us, which is really important if you want to be an extra, because it is a lot of waiting around. We found a lot of great looks, and we're hoping to do the same here in Wilmington."

This casting call could bring potential actors and actresses from Independence Mall to Screen Gems Studios, where the shooting of "Iron Man 3" is scheduled to begin this summer.

"It's a project that people will be glad they were a part of, so I hope they'll get behind it and come out and try to get their minute of camera time," Dahlquist said.

Dahlquist says the more people who show up tomorrow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. the better. They want you to bring a snapshot of yourself as they look for more 1,000 extras for "Iron Man 3."

Both Dahlquist and mall officials are expecting more than 1,000 people to show up for the event.

Who cares???????????????

I saw this mentioned the excitement of casting, assumed it was for actual casting, but didn't see where principal actors could be seen for this.
I'd like to get my client in for it.
If casting checks on these posts, please consider this http://bit.ly/niknews

What kind of "agent" has to advertise their client in a local TV station's comment section? Don't real agents have real contacts?

Is Robert Downey Jr in town as some rumors have suggested.. All unconfirmed officially and denied by others, but theres anotehr source that says he was spotted by an eagleeyed person flying in on a personal private plane to ILM yesterday and picked up by Limo and appeared headed towards downtown or even the Beach area.. Maybe Figure Eight Island or Wrightsville perhaps.. Come on the public wants to know the truth.. Maybe we'll find out tomorrow if Tony Stark shows up incognito at the mall for the extras (laugh not likely RDJ has better things to do IF he really is in town and that I still think is likely but unproven)

We saw him today around 3 o'clock downtown checking out a few classic cars @ Rims on the River. Didn't stay long...

It is highly unlikely that anyone not connected will see Robert Downey Jr during the shoot of IM3 - certainly not at an open casting call that will be absolute madness. I have heard that he has a security entourage that's pretty impressive. Plan on streets being closed for blocks around any public shoot - pedestrian as well as traffic. This one will be a real PITA for Wilmington residents.
