WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- It was a day of celebration at UNC Wilmington, as the school officially installed its new chancellor. Gary Miller says he's ready for the challenge, with a focus on preparing students for future careers.
"Change is good," student Brooke Keller said. "Change makes the university better."
He's been on the job since July, but Friday marked Miller's official installation as the university's chancellor.
"To affirm the importance of this university of higher education and our role in the future of North Carolina has been a rare and wonderful opportunity," Miller said during the event.
The theme of the event, "Dare to Soar", is a charge for the university and its students to adapt to a culture of innovation.
"To prepare students to thrive in this information age is our most important obligation and that we must hold ourselves accountable," Miller said.
Many students made a point to attend the event. They say they are ready to embrace miller's leadership.
"I've met him. He's really nice," Tara Hardy said. He's really fun and easy to talk to."
Keller said, "I'm very excited. I've gone to a few events for his installation, and it's led up to the big day, so I'm excited it's finally here."
More than 40 events are planned throughout the month in celebration of Miller's installation as chancellor.
