WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Plain old volleyball may be fun, but hundreds of UNCW students took it up a notch this weekend for the 19th Annual Oozeball Tournament.

Oozeball is volleyball in the mud. The Wilmington Fire Department helps by spraying down the courts and getting them good and muddy. 140 teams slopped, slid and spiked their way through the ooze. The tournament is a fundraiser for UNCW's Student Ambassadors.

"Definitely it's a good way to come out here and enjoy the weather and to play in the mud a little bit,” said Whitney Belk, a student ambassador who also competed with her team, the Honey Boo-Boos. “The students really enjoy it, and we give out t-shirts as a part of the price to play. People just really enjoy it. Everyone wants to win Oozeball while they're at UNCW."

Belk said all the money raised goes back to the university through the programs the ambassadors put on for past, present and future Seahawks.
