Weekend weather delays 'road diet' reversal in Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Work to reverse the controversial "road diet" in Carolina Beach did not start as planned today.

The Department of Transportation says because of the weather over the weekend, the contractor who was supposed to do the reversal had to finish a different project today.

The road diet reversal will take the current two-lane setup and expand Lake Park Blvd. back to a four-lane road. There will be no bike lanes.

Carolina Beach business owners are just ready for the work to get done.

"It's a little frustrating, because we're all very excited to get the road back to the way it should be and the way it was," business owner Janeen Williams. "It is a little frustrating, but we can't control the weather, so I just want it done this week."

Resurfacing should take about two days. The DOT says the whole job should take about five days to complete after crews get started.
