Art in the Park helps spruce up Rotary Wheel

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington’s Rotary Wheel is the world's largest, and our Rotary Club is working to revitalize it after many years of neglect.

An art sale was held inside the wheel as a fundraiser for the Rotary Wheel and Garden Beautification Project. Beautification project manager Lori Harris said the art sale was inspired by the Women's Federation of North Carolina doing art in the park in the early 1900's.

"We thought that it would be a great fundraiser and a great way to bring back history, a great way to honor our local artists and a great way to engage Rotarians with our art industry as well,” Harris said.

The Wilmington Fire Department was also there, displaying our piece of the World Trade Center and raising money to build the 9/11 Memorial in Empie Park.
