WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The dog days of summer are almost here, but some pooches got an early start this weekend by making a big splash.
Dogs off all kind barked, jumped and swam their hearts out at the first ever Battleship Splash. The Dog Club of Wilmington and Carolina DockDogs put on the dock diving event at Battleship Park. Some of the divers do it professionally, while a lot of the other dogs just wanted to try it out and have a good time.
"I thought it would be really cool for them to get around all these people and everything and try and do it and see how far they could jump,” dog owner Toni Saleeby said. “I know they can do it on a dock on the beach, but I didn't know how well they'd do here. I thought it would be fun for them, that's all."
Saleeby’s two retrievers and all the other pups at Battleship Park sure did have fun.
Proceeds from the event benefit Chase Away Canine Cancer and Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue.
You can catch all the fun again Sunday at Battleship Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
