WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- This Coast Guard City has its cutter back in place, and one young lady has a new piece of jewelry because of the homecoming.

After 56 days patrolling the Caribbean Sea, the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is back home. The ship docked Saturday afternoon, and the first petty officer to step on land had just one thing on his mind: popping the question to his girlfriend Kate. She said yes to her now-fiancé Andy Dettmer.

"I'm really excited. I had absolutely no idea,” newly engaged Kate Schuller said. "I'm sure my friends and family knew, but they did a really good job of keeping it a secret, so I'm very excited. This is kind of where everything started for us the second time, so yea, it's pretty awesome."

The Diligence and her crew will be home in the Port City until late July.
