WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Security upgrades at Wilmington International Airport are done ahead of schedule.
Work on the security checkpoint project finished three weeks early. It includes advanced imaging technology installed last night. Today was the first day for passengers to use the full body scanner.
The equipment is just part of the many changes going on at ILM.
"As a result it impacted our restaurant, it impacted our meeters and greeters situation and our new cue lines," ILM Airport Director Jon Rosborough said. "So everything had to be done in order to get this machine in, and we think we're far better off for that."
Airport officials also say ILM will be safer with the advanced technology.
