WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Security upgrades at Wilmington International Airport are done ahead of schedule.

Work on the security checkpoint project finished three weeks early. It includes advanced imaging technology installed last night. Today was the first day for passengers to use the full body scanner.

The equipment is just part of the many changes going on at ILM.

"As a result it impacted our restaurant, it impacted our meeters and greeters situation and our new cue lines," ILM Airport Director Jon Rosborough said. "So everything had to be done in order to get this machine in, and we think we're far better off for that."

Airport officials also say ILM will be safer with the advanced technology.

Flying Scanners

Flying is a matter of convienence, not a right. Don't like the security plan, walk, ride a bike, take a boat whatever.

FLYING IS A MATTER OF CONVIENENCE, not a constitutional right.

If you have a personal problem with sacrificing modesty for everyone else's personal safety, then I do not want you sitting beside me on a flight. You flake out at the security scanner, what are you willing to NOT do when a terrorist attempts to take over the plane?

Thank you United States Government for keeping honest people honest and protecting us from ourselves.

Um..no. Fortunately, I

Um..no. Fortunately, I don't put up with walking through microwaves. I can fly to wilmington by myself WITHOUT going through this madness since I'm a pilot. =) And I serve our country proud in the military. THIS IS NOT WHAT OUR HEROES HAVE DIED FIGHTING TO PROTECT. The way they are using these scanners poses striking similarities to the events of Rosa Parks. Think about it...Poor people have to deal with stress and traffic making their flights and then they have to be microwaved or rubbed down all in the name of "security." The only way I would approve of the scanners is if every single thing with a heartbeat in the airport had to use them and they got rid of the metal detectors. Then it would be FAIR. The way they are using the scanners is unconstitutional and unreasonable. You aren't going to get lucky all the time if you go through he checkpoints enough. NO ONE is immune from TSA abuse/tyranny not even children or the elderly. I do not believe anyone should be subject to being treated like a criminal just to board a flight. As a pilot, people like me should be in charged of airport security. If you don't know about aviation, please do us all a favor and stop commenting about airport security. YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT KEEPS A PLANE SAFE OR NOT. The tarmac and baggage screening protocols need to be made far more secure and they are spending the money on L-3's scanners instead. BIG MISTAKE. These are also slowing up the security lines which could result in a "Moscow-like" situation....Think about it. STOP SUPPORTING THESE SCANNERS. THEY ARE THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO OUR AIRPORTS!

Airport security

You do have a point that I have to agree with. I don't know much about airport security. News flash... I don't have to be hit by the bullet to know I am being shot at. I fly. I also PURCHASE those tickets that are used to put fuel in your employer's as well as your competitor's airplaines. So, if paying passengers are willing to do the screening machines to insure their safety and put their mind at ease, shut your mouth, put your cute little hat on and board the f'n plane.

However, I find your comments grossly irresponsible and borderline wreckless considering you are supposed to be a trained professional. Clearly, you have been inconvienced by these body scanners, maybe embarassed because of other "factors" but to compare these scanners to Rosa Parks is comparing how similar the space shuttle program is to nuclear submarines. They have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

If you went to one of our fine military academies, I want my money back. You can not compose a rational thought and put it to complete sentences; you demonstrated that with your opening statement and texting acronyms.

Again, flying is a matter of convienence and not a right. Don't like the security plan, exercise you freedoms to find a different means of travel and certainly exercise your freedom to change careers.

You win....

You win for the most ignorant post of the year award. You have got to be kidding. I bet the people that were flown into the world trade centers not so long ago wouldn't have minded TSA. I sure as hell don't. In NO way, shape, fashion or form does this compare to Rosa Parks, as a matter of fact it has absolutely nothing to do with Rosa Parks. I pray to God that someone as stupid as you, is never, ever put in charge of security. I would bet you can't even make a decent paper airplane much less fly a real one. Some of us may not know what makes a plane safe, but you can bet your ass we know that a bomb makes it pretty unsafe. Dumb a@@!!!!!!

Grand Ole Party, you have

Grand Ole Party, you have the attitude and anger of a paranoid schizophrenic towards anyone in which you do not share the same opinion with in these forums. The sweat must constantly cover your brow.
Three pieces of advice:
1. Layoff alcohol with your meds.
2. Layoff reading so much news, you can't handle it.
3. Leave town on a rail.
Follow these 3 steps and the locals here will be better off. Maybe you won't be, but they will.
By the way, ">You< win for the most ignorant post of the year award".
Congrats!

How right you are....

So I prefer a safe flight that some how makes me paranoid hahaha? The sweat in fact is constantly on my brow, it is hot as hell in Afghanistan this time of the year. I don't do meds, however a little alcohol would be nice. But maybe I am wrong and both of you are correct, maybe this is just like the Rosa Parks indecent. Gosh I am just to stupid to see the connection though. You ignorant libs are completely insane. You whine and cry about every single thing that comes down the pipe. Here is a simple answer to this complicated issue........DON'T FLY. Drive, or better yet get on that rail you mentioned. Easy right?

Security Upgrade = Freedom LOST

Great. "Airport officials also say ILM will be safer with the advanced technology."
The next time you're standing with your hands in the air and being seen naked in an airport scanner, ask yourself:
IS THIS THE POSTURE OF A FREE MAN?

"Posture of a free man"?

It's quite obvious you know very little about this country and our freedoms. You evidently do not remember or care about the events of 9/11 and realize the danger this country is in due to the radical muslims and their unrelenting desire to eradicate America and it's freedoms. WAKE UP!!!
Those scanners are there to prevent someone from bringing weapons on board and turning you into bits of raw hamburger. The scanners are there to protect your life AND the resulting freedom. Without them, you can look at yourself and ask, "IS THIS THE POSTURE OF A DEAD MAN?"
Some people are total idiots, completely devoid of any common sense. You just publicly put yourself in that category!

I'll be opting out, thanks.

Someone's making a mint off of this in the name of safety

A few weeks ago, I traveled to an Asian country and back. All the crap that we Americans go through in the name of safety and security only happens here. Coming back, in two different airports in Asian countries, I went through no security that even remotely resembled what we go through here. First airport, on the way back, I had my luggage - checked and carry on - x-rayed at the entrance to the airport. I went through a metal detector at that point. Didn't even have to take my shoes off.

Next stop was baggage check. A form, and a few questions, and I was off the the gates area. Admittance to the "sterile" part of the airport consisted of paying a "departure tax".

Entrance to the actual boarding area required showing my passport and boarding pass. My carry on was x-rayed again. Some people got the once over with the metal detector wand.

So, we take off, and 4 hours later I'm in Asian country #2. My carry on got x-rayed again. There was a quarantine area where they picked people out that showed up "hot", like in fever, on an infrared camera that they scanned everyone with. Into the boarding area, and the passport and boarding pass is checked again.

We take off, and land in Atlanta. Pick up my baggage, and head for immigration and customs. I pass through that and have to give my checked baggage back.

Now we are back in "Homeland Security" territory. All the fun stuff that we have to do here begins again. Shoes off, water bottles in the trash, body scanner, etc. This is for that one hour trip between Atlanta and Wilmington. Remember that I had just flown diagonally across the whole country from Alaska on down and made it in one piece without seeing any of this "super duper security" that we have to pay for and tolerate here.

"ILM will be safer".... That's all they need to say, and then that's how it is. Like it or not.

Terrorists don't care about Asia....

...it's the "Infidels" of America they have their sights on, remember? They hate America, our people, our freedom, our lifestyles, our freedom and...our freedom. Be reminded that there has been many additional unsuccessful attempts since 9/11. Underwear bomber, shoe bomber, etc. You can bet your whiney, complaining a$$ that the radical muslims are planning yet another event to murder as many Americans as they can in one shot. This is not the time for complacency and certainly not the time for complaining and whining about your silly inconvenience. If you want to complain about something, look at the cost of fuel, the cost of flying nowadays, the cost of carry-on baggage and you not getting your little sack of peanuts.
After what happened on 9/11, never, ever turn your back on those that we know want to destroy us and our FREEDOM!

As far as I'm concerned, the next time you travel to Asia without them looking after your whiney, moaning butt, you should just stay there! That way you don't have to waste your time complaining and can remain a happy little camper boy.

Great

Just one more reason to fly out of RDU.

Hate to tell you this, but

Hate to tell you this, but RDU has body scanners.

Sad

Sad day...we idly sit by while our rights are just stripped away...

Why do you think this is a

Why do you think this is a right? I realy hope you're not going to vote democrap again this election!
