LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Leland woman is in jail for making up her own abduction.

Leland Police received a report Saturday that Ashley Hutchins had been abducted and was being held for an undisclosed ransom. Hutchins was found Sunday in Winnabow during a collaborative investigation between the Leland Police, FBI and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Hutchins is charged with extortion. She is in the Brunswick County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
