Woman dies in afternoon house fire

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A woman is dead after an afternoon house fire near Leland.

The fire broke out just after 12:30 p.m. on Farm Meadows Drive off NC 87.

Firefighters say they put out the fire within three minutes arriving. During a search, they found Donna Byrd Hambrick, 47, in a bedroom. She died at a hospital.

The fire is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.
