WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Wrightsville Beach is celebrating an international distinction. National Geographic has named it one of the 20 best surf towns in the world.
It's joined on the list by towns in better known surf Meccas like Hawaii, Brazil and Australia.
Wrightsville Beach was noted for the surf during hurricane season and for being a stand-up paddleboarding hotbed.

Top 20? For knee high slop 9
Top 20? For knee high slop 9 months a year?
WB may be a good "surf town"...
but the good surfing is at Carolina Beach.
What? With commonly knee to waist high surf?
Yep. We have surfshops, surfboards, roof racks with surfboards, surfboards all over the beach. We have surfer boys and wahinis. We have surf music and we have surf bands....we just have no surf. That NatGeo reporter must've just graduated from the Fairbanks Alaska School of Ice Cube Sales because he doesn't know DIDDLY about surfing!!!

Better bring a lot of change for parking, and always be on time to add quarters/time because the parking ticket brigade is quite dedicated in Wrightsville Beach.
