WILMINGTON, NC (STARNEWSONLINE.COM) -- A Wilmington man was shaken up but uninjured Thursday morning after a large tree branch fell on his car as he was driving on Market Street.

The branch stretched across Market in the 2000 block, blocking traffic in both directions.

The driver, Michael Ward, 38, was driving his 2010 Volkswagen west on Market near the Wilmington National Cemetery when the branch fell.

No reporters of your own?

Why is WWAY posting a report from the Star News? Was it to hot for your own reporters to do some digging of their own? Maybe your advertisers should spend their money with Star News and you could just provide a link to their ads.

Wilmington Observer

Second one this

Second one this month......they need to be inspected and/or trimmed

cut em all down

Get a grip..and yes I am from here..all those trees need to go and make the street wider. All you tree freaks really crack me up, who cares if they are old,cut em down, widen the street then you tree freaks can have a get together, hold hands and plant some new ones.

Tradition & Beauty

Residents fought hard to save these beautiful trees on Market Street--the 'tunnel--that add beauty & charm to our older, original city. I regret the accident and I'm so thankful the driver was not hurt. I live downtown and travel that same stretch of road every day,
but I do not want these trees destroyed. That particular mindset when it comes to safety is also dangerous.

I guess this is one branch...

the City Arborist forgot to check on before he was arrested.

I have said for years that

I have said for years that the chain saws need to come out and down every tree from 17th Street North to where Market widens. That narrow street is a disgrace to Wilmington and needs to be more modern and safe.

First of all, if you don't

First of all, if you don't like the way Wilmington does things, then you are welcome to leave.

Second of all, if you insist on staying, then drive a different route.

Last of all, there is nothing disgraceful about the beautiful tree-lined streets. If everyone pays attention, then there should be no problems with the narrow lanes.

Let me guess, not from

Let me guess, not from around here are you? Typical "not the way we did it up north" comment.

trees a falling

up north you would be called a idiot!

YOU SHOULD GO LIVE IN A

YOU SHOULD GO LIVE IN A DESERT. THE TREES MAKE MARKET ST. THEY'V BEEN THERE FOR YEARS. LEAVE THEM ALONE. VERY SORRY FOR THE PERSON THAT THE BRANCH FELL ON AND GLAD THAT HES OK. S--- HAPPENS. DEAL WITH IT.

It happens?? Deal with it?

It happens?? Deal with it? Let that have been your 2010 car smashed to pieces, you would be looking for restitution. And thank GOD that this guy wasnt killed in this freak accident. What if this was a mother with her children in the car and they all got killed or seriously injured because of a weak ass tree that should have BEEN cut by the city? I am disappointed in the lack of empathy from you all for this young man and every other commuter that has to travel along that EXTREMELY dangerous side of market street.

...and while they're at it,

...and while they're at it, why not pave over all that unsightly grass and weeds with concrete?

Car falls on tree

The trees were there first. The sad fact is that many of Wilmingtons old trees are diseased. They are splitting and falling all over town.

What? Should we cut them all down? I submit that you have a much better chance of getting hit by a falling sattelite.

IDIOT

You my friend are an idiot. Accidents and tree limbs fall. When is the last time one fell and damaged a car?

These trees are a part of Wilmington's character and charm. If don't like them take your sorry butt somewhere else.

Actually, one fell on a car

Actually, one fell on a car Thursday morning, according to the story. Maybe you missed that. I have lived here over 35 years. I am an NC native, not a Yankee. The trees need to go. Market Street is unsafe in that area.

Stay off your phone...

And you should have no problems staying in between the lines. I have driven on this street for 20 yrs and never had an issue. Pay attention to the road and not your cellphone, radio, passenger, the trees above you! Imagine that....DRIVING you car!!!!!

The trees and the slim road are not the problem, its the people who don't pay attention when driving.

Really. Maybe you should of

Really. Maybe you should of been in the car with me to see I was not on my phone. Let me guess you can fix all the worlds problems to.

So, what you are saying is

So, what you are saying is that if I do not use my cell phone, radio, or have any passengers in my car, then I can avoid a falling tree branch!?

Sigh... oh boy....
