WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington man is in jail without bond after police say he kidnapped his own child.
Officers were called to 1616 S. 15th Street around 5:15 p.m. Thursday for a domestic dispute. The victim said she and her baby's father, David Antonio Rivers, 20, had gotten into an argument, and that he had assaulted her. She said Rivers then roughly grabbed their baby and ran out the back door. While Rivers was running away with his baby, he allegedly ran into 1556 S 13th Street, and right out the back door.
The owner of that home told police she did know Rivers and did not invite him into her house. It took officers about two hours to find Rivers and the child, who was safe and returned to its mother.
Rivers is in the New Hanover County Jail without bond. He is charged with two counts of assault on a female, communicating threats, misdemeanor child abuse, breaking and entering. Officers also served him with five outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court.
