BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A Bladen County man is in jail charged with cutting his neighbor with a machete.

The Bladen County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested Valentin Castillo Vazquez, 56, of 141 Scrub Oak Road Elizabethtown, Saturday and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.

Investigators say Vazquez was reportedly driving through his neighbors' yards and shining a flashlight in their windows on Scrub Oak Road around midnight.

When several neighbors approached him about his careless and reckless driving, deputies say Vazquez took out a machete and started walking toward the neighbors in a threatening manner. When one of the neighbors approached him, Vazquez reportedly swung the machete, cutting the neighbor on the left hand.

The injured neighbor was transported to Bladen County Hospital, where he got stitches.

The Sheriff's Office says Vazquez had been drinking and was impaired at the time of the incident.

Vazquez is in the Bladen County Jail under a $35,000 secured bond.
