WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A man was found dead inside his home this morning after a shooting at a Wilmington housing project. Wilmington Police say an officer found Brian Grant, 32, inside his Creekwood apartment four years to the day since another murder in the area.
"A tragedy day. That's what I'm going to call it," said Ahneekah Salley, who knew Grant.
A Wilmington Police officer responded to Grant's apartment at 916 North 30th Street in Creekwood around 9:30 a.m. Friday. He found Grant laying in the doorway.
"He had went into the house, and a knock came to the door," Grant's friend Michelle Williams said. "He answered the door, and somebody shot him."
Police say when EMS arrived, there was nothing they could do.
Many who knew Grant are also mourning another murder victim, who died on the same day four years ago.
On July 27, 2008, Emmitt "Cinque" Irving was shot and killed in front of his Grace Street home.
"Every July 27 that comes it's not going to be a good day for us," Salley said. "We're going to have to relive this every year."
"The crime here has got to stop," Williams said. "It's got to stop. When will it end? I don't know."
Police say they are actively pursuing leads in the shooting investigation. Officers spoke to a few witnesses this morning.
