WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A man was found dead inside his home this morning after a shooting at a Wilmington housing project. Wilmington Police say an officer found Brian Grant, 32, inside his Creekwood apartment four years to the day since another murder in the area.

"A tragedy day. That's what I'm going to call it," said Ahneekah Salley, who knew Grant.

A Wilmington Police officer responded to Grant's apartment at 916 North 30th Street in Creekwood around 9:30 a.m. Friday. He found Grant laying in the doorway.

"He had went into the house, and a knock came to the door," Grant's friend Michelle Williams said. "He answered the door, and somebody shot him."

Police say when EMS arrived, there was nothing they could do.

Many who knew Grant are also mourning another murder victim, who died on the same day four years ago.

On July 27, 2008, Emmitt "Cinque" Irving was shot and killed in front of his Grace Street home.

"Every July 27 that comes it's not going to be a good day for us," Salley said. "We're going to have to relive this every year."

"The crime here has got to stop," Williams said. "It's got to stop. When will it end? I don't know."

Police say they are actively pursuing leads in the shooting investigation. Officers spoke to a few witnesses this morning.

" PEOPLE JUS NEED TO B MORE

" PEOPLE JUS NEED TO B MORE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS. THE YOUNG MAN HAS A FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO LOVED HIM VERY MUCH. WHERE HE GOT KILLED AT IS NOT THE ISSUE AT HAND. A LIFE WAS TAKEN REGARDLESS OF THE FACT, AND THAT SHOULD B ALL THAT MATTERS.GETTING THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH, SHOULD B THE CONCERN AT THIS TIME. WHAT IF IT WAS SOMEONE IN YOUR FAMILY? IT IS NOT CREEKWOOD THAT IS A BAD PLACE IT IS THE PEOPLE. STEREO TYPING IN THIS WORLD IS AWFUL."

who are we to judge sure not God.

Everyone is so quick to judge ..smh. I highly doubt anyone who has a negative remark knows anyone who lives out there personally you read the news and say oh someone died in creekwood again those people have no respect for themselves you can't judge and whole community off a few individuals who have no respect for a life but hey if it makes you feel better to voice your opinion do so clearly ignorance is bliss

Now we know...

...why you are so happy.

I grew up with and went to

I grew up with and went to school with people who lived in Creekwood. Many of my friends who grew up there are very successful and live legal lives. One is even a police officer. So dont do that, being so disrespectful especially when someone's loved one has died. That man can never come back.

DUMB COMMENTS

FIRAT I MUST SAY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSE. I FEEL THE SAME AS THE YOUNG LADY'S MOTHER. THE CRIME NEED TO STOP!!!!!!!!! BUT TO THE COOMENTS HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS WHLOE COMMUNITY HAS NO RESPECT . CAN YOU SAY THE SUSPECT LIVES CREEKWOOD? HAVE SOME RESPECT !!!! PEOPLE CAN'T ALL LIVE IN BIG HOUSES OR DRIVE A HUMMER. YOU CAN'T JUDGE PEOPLE === WHO ARE YOU!!!! ONLY ONE PERSON CAN JUDGE AND IT'S NOT YOU AND IT'S NOT ME!!!GIVE ME A BREAK THINK BEFORE YOH MAKE DUMB COMMENTS. CAN I ASK ON QUESTION >>>>>> IF THE POLICE KNOW IT'S A PROBLEM OUT THERE WHY NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT????

Please allow me...

When the police come into your neighborhood people like you are the FIRST to yell harassment. You complain when they do there job, and whine when they don't.

My family grew up with the

My family grew up with the Grants and it is so terrible this has happened. Brian was a great guy and his family are all wonderful, loving people. Yes, Creekwood is known as a bad area, but no one deserves to be murdered, and to be so callous about the loss of a father, brother and great friend to many people is sick. I pray for comfort for the Grant family in this tragic time. Nothing will ease the sorrow for them, but to add anonymous idiotic comments when someone has died is so childish. Show some respect, if you know what that is...human life is precious, no matter what neighborhood we live in.

grew up with very

Very well stated young lady!!!!

If you want it to stop...

...you have to take a stand with your neighbors against the drugs, thugs and gangs. Otherwise they will continue to rule over you and your children.

I know the family very well.

I know the family very well. They are the sweetest people I know and they all love each other so much. I can't imagine what they are going through but I want them to know how much all of their friends and extended family in Charlotte love them.

Yea He will be missed very

Yea He will be missed very much. Came from a good family, and good home, hope justice is served accordingly. Losing too many of our community to nonsense!

No shock there

People in that neighborhood have no respect for life and responsibility for themselves.

IF U DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING

IF U DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TOO SAY DONT SAY ANYTHING!!! MY HEART GOES OUT TOO THE FAMILY HE WAS A GOOD DUDE!!!

THAT NEIGHBORHOOD

Watch your mouth dude...you dont know anyone in that neighborhood ...its ignorant people in every hood in America

Or what?

Why does he/she have to watch their mouth? Will something bad happen to them? Here, I'll play along; watch your back dude.

or what

Such a lovely christian woman you are.

Thank you

I modeled myself after you.

Creekwood shooting?

Gasping in disbelief... NOT...

In response

In response to the tons of insensitive ignorant people who are going to make jabs at creekwood: stop being pig headed and impolite. The person who was shot was a person, and not just some name in a news report. He was kind, friendly and genuine. Be respectful to his friends and family and keep your sarcastic stupidity to yourself. Just because someone gets murdered in a high crime area does not give you liberty to run your mouth, nor does it make the act in question any less of a tragedy.

Shocked

How unusual. That is such a quiet peaceful, clean area.

shocked

You would have something nasty to say.

Yep

And your point is? Don't be mad that I have pointed out how many user names you use.
