WILMINGTON, NC (STARNEWSONLINE.COM) -- New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger is back on the offensive challenging a recently passed travel policy after his request to use county funds to attend an upcoming conference was denied.

Berger, in an email Friday, objected to being told he couldn't attend the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Annual Conference Aug. 16-19. His request was denied because Berger is in violation of the county's new travel policy because he owes the county $547.09 for unused hotel rooms and conference fees. As of Tuesday, the balance was not paid, according to county staff. Sheila Schult, clerk of the board, said none of the other commissioners have outstanding debts.

CATLIN IS A BOZO-BUT NO CLOWN

Star News is pathetic rag sheet- biased and dishonest. Catlin talks about relevance when he is no more and no less than a political jackal-short on facts long on slimy tactics. Kevin why not tell us which Republican operative offered you Berger's stolen notes? Kevin why not tell us which County employee violated the law and offered you an exclusive story when they violated Berger's confidentiality and the law by releasing info directly to you? Catlin and the other jerks have a lot more to hide and explain than Berger.
The smear job and gang up by the vulger wilmington cabal on Berger will boomarang.

Ahhh, Kevin Mauer's back in

Ahhh, Kevin Mauer's back in town, so I guess we can count on more stories singling out Brian Berger.

Look, is Brian a terrible, terrible commissioner? Of course. Are these other people terrible commissioners as well? Yes, probably so, at least in the case of Thompson and Barfield almost certainly so.

Let's take a look at one lie, or "misleading statement" Thompson said during the campaign trail, before voters had the sense to kick him out. He said that spending had gone down ...whatever amount since he became County Commissioner. The reason for that was because the county gave away water and sewer service, so they were doing less. If you look at all other spending besides that, the county budget has increased quite a bit. Why would no one call him on that? No knowledge? No inclination? It's blatant.

As far as using their position for personal gain, I've heard that both Barfield and Thompson take advantage of those "perks" quite a bit. From what I've heard the indication seems to be that Barfield takes advantage of them most of all. Why is this never reported? Why are Barfield's "campaign promises" never brought up?

Kevin, broaden your scope, because people are sick of just reading about Berger when they know more is going on.

There is that deal with the

There is that deal with the last hurricane that came through and the county wouldn't haul away the debris, but you could call Thompson's business up and pay them to haul it away.

where are the french fries

where are the french fries with this Happy Meal???coming up short...

BTW, use the link and read the Star-News

I don't normally encourage anyone to read that liberal fish-wrap, but read the story about this incident. It sheds a bright light on Berger's character and general worth as a human being.

Prouder that I voted for Nixon!

Berger=Stooge

Let's all say it...T-R-A-N-S-P-A-R-E-N-C-Y

trans·par·en·cy   [trans-pair-uhn-see-] noun
1. trans·par·ence. The quality or state of being transparent.
2. implies openness, communication, and accountability. Transparency is operating in such a way that it is easy for others to see what actions are performed.

Oh forget it! He'll never get what we're saying anyway... like Forest Gump alway said "Stupid is as stupid does!"

This Bozo will have to win the lottery....

...to come up with that amount of money.

Oh Bart..

I told you people not to vote for Bart Simpson.

Commissioner Berger

Commissioner Berger is a duly elected official of the county and as such he should be allowed to attend th Association of County Commissioners Annual Conference Aug. 16-19 and the County should make it clear to him that it will pay his expenses minus $547.09. Who says people don't make mistakes? Well the voters made a real doozie of a mistake with this 'Gentleman" and to that extent they to should suffer some of the consequences of their actions. Maybe it will help them next time as they visit the polls.

The voters have already suffered the consequences

Unless you're into self flagellation, I can't think of a good reason for the voters to suffer more consequences than they already have.

Berger voted for this policy along with the other commissioners. If he was too stupid to know what he was voting for, going to the Annual Conference certainly won't elevate his political IQ. And you wan't to pour additional NHC dollars down the sewer just to punish the voters?

As someone else posted: "he's cluless". Do yourself a favor and try not appear the same way.

Ken

a very reasonable solution. Sadly, Mr Berger may not have the $547.09 available to cover the variance in expenses.

Policy is what it is. And he cost the taxpayers $547.09 which the County fronted to cover meetings he failed to attend.

Let's hope he learned the lesson.

And to all those Berger mashers, of either party. Have you come up with a viable and electable alternate? Unless you do, the Tar Baby may be around for a second term.

The Berger File:

Here he goes again. He votes for something then rescinds his position. His excuse will be: "Than was not my intention" or something of that nature. This even makes it more evident that he does not have a clear picture of what he votes on. He does not prepare nor does he have the ability to understand the intricate details of most facets of the Commission's business. As the gentleman stated before, he is clueless. He will only become more of a non-factor as the remainder of his term drags out. But he will remain a source of entertainment at the taxpayer's expense. Until he pays the $547.09, he can stay home.

Clueless

Yes...Clueless.
