WILMINGTON, NC (AP) -- The Battleship North Carolina is making plans to host overnight guests.
The idea is that groups, such as Boy Scouts, will get a taste of living aboard the ship. The renovations would provide overnight accommodations for about 130 people.
The ship's promotions director, Heather Loftin, says state officials are reviewing the plan. Once it's approved, a contract will be awarded and construction should begin this fall.
The program is expected to start next spring.
The aircraft carrier USS Yorktown in South Carolina offers a similar overnight program.

Maybe it's something that
Maybe it's something that the youth groups would enjoy as well.
Been waiting for this for a long time!
Talks have been going on about having overnight guests on the Battleship for a few years. Local scout groups would love to do this and even scout groups from out of town will come to Wilmington just for the privilege. Hopefully, this will actually happen before my youngest Cub Scout grows up!
