WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Investigators say a fire yesterday where a man was found dead was intentionally set. They also say the victim, George West Paylor, killed himself.

The WPD/WFD Arson Task Force says it determined the fire at 120 Cavalier Drive was intentionally set from inside the house. Investigators found accelerants in several rooms.

Police say Paylor, 40, was the only person found in the house, and several sources told investigators he lived there alone. Police say they found a lengthy note Paylor left and that it was also apparent Paylor died from a self-inflicted injury.

I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE

I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE PAINFULLY MISTAKEN ABOUT WHAT IS NEWSWORTHY. HOW CAN SOME ONES TRAGADY BE NEWSWORTHY? HOW DID THE PUBLIC BENEFIT FROM KNOWING THE FINANCIAL SITUATION OF THIS INDIVIDUAL? WAS HE A POLITICAN? NO. DID YOU PAY HIS BILLS OR DID HE ASK FOR YOU TO PAY HIS BILLS? NO. SO PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW DRAGING SOME ONES NAME THROUGH THE MUD HELPS THE PUBLIC. AND HOW DOES USING PUBLIC RESOURSES MAKE IT NEWSWORTHY? SO ACCORDING TO YOU, WE SHOULD PRINT OR ACKNOWLEDGE EVERY SPEEDING AND PARKING TICKET??? THAT WAS A QUESTION IF YOU HADN'T PICKED UP ON IT. AND AS FOR THE QUESTION OF THE DIRECTION OF MY ANGER, IM SURE YOU WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND HAVING NO CLOSE FRIENDS OR FAMILY, YOU WOULD NOT COMPREHEND THE EMOTION. BUT PLEASE, IF YOU CAN TELL ME WHY THIS IS NEWSWORHTY AND WHY YOU THINK THIS IS OR SHOULD BE PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE, BY ALL MEANS GO AHEAD.

First of all, sad does not

First of all, sad does not begin to describe this story. Mr. Paylor was a very good man. I am quite sure that all his friends, like myself, always felt comfortable in his presence. Everyone who gathers info from all the media sources should know the character of the man we are writing about. It was excellent, period.

I believe it is appropriate to release pertinent information to the public. After all, a huge fire occurred in a neighborhood home. Letting neighbors know whether they need to worry about a serial arsonist and or murderer has got to be the top priority. People have families that live in the community.

Through these challenging times, may Mr. Paylor's family, friends, and loved ones find the compassion and strength that our Creator provides.

WP- You're loved and will be missed.

Newsworthy

I understand your feelings, but you are quite wrong.
A house fire IS newsworthy. A suicide IS newsworthy. A house fire combined with a suicide is VERY newsworthy. Anything that creates public attention or alarm, or uses public resources IS newsworthy.

There is a difference between reporting a newsworthy event and creating entertainment from a newsworthy event. I don't see a thing WWAY did to entertain anyone with this reporting.

There is anger in your post but I think it's grossly misdirected.

I believe that this article

I believe that this article shows the insensitivity and lack of taste that the media today is so known for. There is no respect for the Paylor family. The deceased name should not have been released nor should the manner in which he died. I would like for the powers that be that authorized this article to think for a minute how they would feel if they were in the position of the deceased's parents. If they had, I do not believe this article would have ever been published. Everything is not news worthy. The media outlets need to learn to have a little class and take into account the feelings of those that maybe affected by the articles that are written.
