RALEIGH, NC (AP) - Two big changes are now in place at the formerly all-female Peace College. The Raleigh school's name has been William Peace University since last year, and as of this weekend, men are now full-time students.
WRAL-TV reported that men comprise about a third of the class that moved in Saturday and Sunday. It's the first class to be admitted since the all-women's Peace College was renamed and men were allowed to register.
The decision last summer to end the school's 155-year-old focus on educating women brought opposition from alumnae. Peace University President Debra Townsley says the university is moving past that controversy.
