Man with Parkinson's drowns at Topsail Beach

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- Topsail Beach Police say a man with Parkinson's disease drowned in the ocean early yesterday morning.

Police say the victim is Lester Howard Mason, 69, of Topsail Beach. Police say Mason was swimming behind his home on Carolina Boulevard yesterday morning. Emergency crews found his body around 6:15.

Investigators have not yet determined what led to his drowning. Officers say Mason was a strong swimmer and swam recreationally.

Topsail Beach Police say Mason was well-liked in the community and he will be missed.
