Boys & Girls Homes give teen moms in need place to adjust to new role

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) -- Teen moms in Columbus County may soon get a helping hand in their new life.

The Boys & Girls Homes in Lake Waccamaw is in the process of opening a home, where pregnant teens in DSS care can live with their baby, while learning how to be a parent despite a lack of role models. The Teen Mom and Baby Program is expected to be up and running by the end of next month.

"We are in no way celebrating teen moms having babies, but what we're trying to do is meet a gap that's in the services for these girls," Donna Yalch, with the Boys and Girls Home, said.

The Teen Mom and Baby Program is called the LAKE House, which stands for Loving and Knowledgeable Environment.
