FIRST ON 3: One man dead after car hits pole

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A car accident Tuesday night in the Bayshore Estates Neighborhood off Market Street in Wilmington left one person dead.

According to Highway Patrol, the driver of a pickup truck was speeding around a curve in the 400 block of Biscayne Drive around 10:00 pm. They say the 48-year-old man was going well over the 45 mile per hour speed limit when he drove through a telephone pole into a tree.

Highway Patrol says the man died on impact, he was not wearing a seatbelt.
