WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- With President Obama's speech Thursday being moved inside, it's not only affecting those already at the convention, but also people here, who were planning to make the trip to Charlotte for the speech.

65,000 people with community credentials, who planned to watch the president's speech in person Thursday will have to cancel their trip to the Queen City because of possible inclement weather. Wednesday, WWAY spoke with a few who say the change could be a good thing.

“I was kind of disappointed,” says Andrea Brodman, an Obama campaign fellow in Wilmington. “At first I didn't believe it.”

More than 1,000 volunteers and free ticket holders who have community credentials are from the Wilmington area. Though upset at first, some are looking at the positive side.

“There’s going to be so many resources that we had allocated towards that and now it's like we're all still here and we're all still really fired up about it,” says Dakota Cary, a UNCW student and Obama campaign fellow in Wilmington.

Many of the volunteers had to work at least 27 hours to qualify for the credential, helping out with the Obama campaign locally, who had planned to either caravan to the DNC or ride in rented buses. The others ticket holders got their credentials first come first serve. Now with the speech moved inside, volunteers say this can also be a chance to gain support through holding watch parties.

“Because I’m back here and the other volunteers who aren't going anymore are going to be here and we can get all our friends to watch as well,” Brodman says.

“Just straight grass roots,” Cary says. “Everyone from the dorm coming together and watching the president speak.”

According to the North Carolina Obama campaign spokesman, the president plans to hold a conference call with the community credential holders prior to Thursday night’s speech.

DNC

There was a democrat national convention?

What the hell?

I was too busy watching football, drinking beer, smoking cigaretters and flicking them out on Wrightsville Beach, collecting unemployment and other entitlements.

Thanks hippies. Make sure your taxes are paid on time. I want to go buy a new cadillac.

Hey Beach Bum.... aren't you

Hey Beach Bum.... aren't you the guy who used to pimp for the cement plant?

Sorry people

Its a sad world when people think that the poor deserve what they get and say *they should not of had kids* Let me give you an example of why people need help. My best friend a mother of 2 small children under the age of five was married, her and her husband had a nice home and he had a good job, she was stay at home b/c it was cheaper to stay at home then to work and pay daycare. Her husband was killed last Nov in a car wreck, she now works days at a vacation job (has to pay for daycare ) and weekends works night as a cleaner. This poor woman has lost time with her children, she has lost her nice home, she has to take handouts bc she only makes 400 a week.. How can someone live on 400 a week a family of three??? So you tell her kids why mom cant have foodstamps or why they cant go to the doctor... I make a heck of a lot less money than some people but I give what I can bc I have lived poor, I grew up in the system and got out.. Shame on those with no heart. The system is messed up and gives to the wrong people but what about the ones who do need help.

poverty stricken people ?

poverty stricken people usually translates into LAZY people or maybe ADDICTED people neither of which get my sympathy !!!

bob, you are a heartless and

bob, you are a heartless and ignorant fool.

Get educated

As I tried to read through your comment, I struggled due to the grammar issues. If you will get educated, then you will not have to worry about where the money comes from when you get older or your parents either. The problem is that you want something for nothing. Why should working people pay for your services? There is nothing in the constitution that says tax payers are to pay for your healthcare. Get educated, get a job, and then support yourself. There are jobs available, but you just have to be willing to work. Education is free to you for 13 years.

LOL

WHO's getting rid of Medicare....

Political showmanship

Political speeches are just glitz and glamour for both parties. Where the rubber meets the road , is having real solutions , such as sound fiscal policies that stimulate economic activity. This President has been a miserable failure with putting us on a path to prosperity. Folks like Andrea Brodman are young , naive individuals with limited real life experiences that are easily lured by the forked tongue orator. It is the intentional effort of the forked tongue orator to indoctrinate the youth but they will pay for his sins with a huge amount of indebtness and chronic employment into the foreseeable future. The welfare state is not a Utopian state therfore reality will be harsh when it arrives. This experiment is nothing new or refreshing. It was a failed experiment throughout Europe. I think they refer to it as socialism. A word liberals consider to be racist.

I was sitting on the fence

I was sitting on the fence for this election.. but reading all of these comments about the president made me decide to send him a couple hundred dollars.

A decision you ....

A decision you will probably regret in the future. Sheep to the slaughter.

HA

You were never on the fence...

Read for yourself

If you want to know the truth get it from the horses mouth, don't just read what someone else thinks, get the facts then make up your own mind.

When Andrea grows up...

and starts paying her own bills and is off Mommy & Daddy's payroll...her attitude will change. But for now, we taxpayers are providing her with free birth control.

I,D RATHER BUY HER BIRTH

I,D RATHER BUY HER BIRTH CONTROL PILLS THAN PAY FOR 4-5 ILLEGITIMATE KIDS FOR 18PLUS YEARS (MAYBE FOREVER IF A BIRTH DEFECT HAPPENS)IF WOMEN SHOULD KEEP THEIR LEGS CROSSED, MEN SHOULD KEEP THEIR BRAINS ZIPPED IN THEIR PANTS.

taxpayer, you invariably

taxpayer, you invariably make sense when you post on local issues. Why did you lower yourself to impugn this young woman. Are you also messed up from drinking too much republicant koolaid??? This November election will FINALLY take the fallacy called "Reaganomics" and relegate to its well deserved place in history filed under "Failures".

Your too stupid for words...

Your too stupid for words... tell me what do you think cost less... birth control, or a baby?

It's unfortunate ...

... that you think that either public funding for birth control or a baby are the ONLY two choices available.

If most people felt like you, and I hope they don't, America doesn't stand a snowball's chance on the planet Mercury of continuing to be a sucessful entity in today's world

It's also unfortunate that

It's also unfortunate that self-centered a-holes such as yourself could care less about the poverty stricken people of this country. It's unfortunate that the fortunate feel so good about there place in life, and do nothing to better the lives of others. It's unfortunate that you would rather have babies born into poverty, and disease with no help than providing a soon to be mother birth control so she doesn't have to bear that burden to begin with. It's unfortunate that you believe funding neither as a great option. You should take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself who you are.... because you appear to be a very selfish person with no moral compass.

Since there are quite a few

Since there are quite a few replies on my post I will try and clarify on this one reply to the people who responded. I work 70 hours a week. I pay taxes. My wife works 50 hours a week. She pays taxes. We own our home. We are no better than you, and you are no better than me. Truth is there are people out there that honestly need help. They don't want your help forever as you suggest. They need a little assistance to get on there feet. Their are however a few that do abuse the system, and there always will be. As long as there is ever a system there will also be individuals looking to manipulate it for there personal gain. this group of people are a small collective, but ruin it for the overwhelming majority of people that are using the assistance for good. I'm tired of hateful people kicking people when they are already down. I know you don't want your hard earned money going to someone who is working the system. I get that. The system needs to be reformed... Just as the post below stated when President Clinton wanted a two year turn around on assistance. But I'm not talking about that... I'm talking about the essence of helping our fellow brothers and sisters get on their feet. and if you can't get on board with that then yes you are a self-centered a-hole. Hell I'm an atheist and probably the most moral on this entire blog.... a year and a half ago my wife was laid off we couldn't afford to have children, or the high cost of birth control. She was able to get it cheaper at the planned parenthood facility. Once she got a job and had insurance again she was able to get her normal prescription again... these are the stories no one thinks about... the savings we got every month because planned parenthood was there really helped us... we weren't trying to "work" the system just trying to afford birth control as we were not ready to have a baby. Thing is you think you have all the answers but you don't

So cute

That is cute that you expect the people that pay taxes for you to live off of, to pay more for more lazy people to live off of.

Don't breed what you can't afford to feed.

Dear John,

My ability to determine that mathematically there are most certainly more than JUST the two EXCLUSIVE choices of either public funding for birth control OR having a baby makes me neither self-centered nor a foul name. It simply indicates I have at least a modicum of common sense. Your semi-rational, excessively emotional response to that indicates that perhaps you may have a little less of that commodity.

Because I actually HAVE a moral compass, I understand that the choice to procreate or not IS a moral decision. That's what sets us apart from the animals, our ability to make moral decisions.

If a person chooses (once again, a moral decision) to have recreational sex, they should also choose to protect themselves from accidental procreation or disease. A condom costs about 50 cents or about the cost of two cigarettes (smoking also being a moral choice these days with all of the available data). Virtually ANYONE can come up with the 50 cents necessary to protect themselves if they CHOOSE to.

Apparently in your world, SOMEONE ELSE has to make the choice of paying as little as 50 cents to protect some young person from becoming pregnant. Apparently in your world, young girls aren't girls at all, simply animals that are INCAPABLE of making any moral decisions on their own. Even decisions as small as spending just 50 cents for their own personal protection.

I choose to believe that humans are BETTER than that. You apparently choose to believe that humans are just ANIMALS.

You were correct about one thing though. I do have a self-centered a-hole, just as nature intended. Thanks for the compliment.

No. Its sounds as if he

No. Its sounds as if he chose to get an education when it was offered K-12 for free. Just because you make bad choices doesn't mean that we should suffer for your bad choices. You were warned in school and chose to make the bad choices. Now suffer the consequences. The strong survive. Sorry...I am tired of my family doing without so your family can live it up at my expense.

Well..

its unfortunate that you think its MY job to better the lives of others!? I got off my rear end and put MYSELF through college to better myself. Why should it be my JOB to work for YOU!? When the government gives money to those who don't work for it, it means SOMEBODY worked without making money...MORALS mean you should feel GUILTY for STEALING from anothers family!

Idiot

John, you're part of the problem.

If we're going to talk

about moral compass then let's look at both sides, shall we?

Aid should be available for those who truly are unable to provide for themselves due to real medical or mental disabilities.

But think back to 1996 and Bill Clinton's first year in office and one of his attempts to modify the entitlement programs.

He very clearly stated a policy which would require those who were physically and mentally able to work to do so within 2 years. He noted that would allow sufficient time for those who required training to get it. He clearly stated entitlements would end at the 2 year mark for those able to work.

He was realistic enough and knew the country could not afford to maintain unfettered social programs for those who could work but chose not to.

And what happened? The liberals in a Democratic House and Senate, led by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd shot his proposal down faster then he could present it to Congress.

Would you say he had no moral compass?

And what about the baby machines that crank out 6 to 15 children just so they can get all of the government entitlement programs out there? They could practice birth control. But they choose not to. They can not afford them; the children are placed in public housing and subsist on Food Stamps. Many do not even know the identity of their Fathers. Many do not finish high school and end up on the streets with no hope for the future but merely a future of replicating a life they learned from the baby machine.

Where's the moral compass for the baby machines?

Free cell phones cost the Federal Government $300 Million per year. They include voice mail and up to 400 minutes per month. The intent was to provide access to emergency services such as medical or police. Why? Anyone on a public entitlement can go to their Social Service liason and secure a free phone which will dial 911 and allow the person to secure emergency response. And there is no charge to the public or taxpayers.

Where's the moral compass there for the government agency which came up with this program? Was it just another attempt to secure blindless votes for a political party and its candidates?

Where's the moral compass for EBT, Food Stamp, card holders who use the benefits to buy smokes and beer rather than the food their family should be receiving?

So talk about moral compass. Let's look at both sides of the street.

Tom

Both sides? I'm not saying your wrong (or right) but your only looking at one side.

Self-centered?

We earn our money and we would like to have a say in how it is distributed, how does that make us self-centered? If you are unable to afford contraceptives or having children, maybe you should abstain for the time being. Pretty simple right?

He's selfish?

I'd say those who are selfish and greedy are those who want what other people earned through THEIR labors.

There is such a thing as

There is such a thing as abstinence. If you can't afford a baby then you shouldn't take part in the activity that produces a baby. By your "logic" if you don't believe in paying for someone else's birth control then that person doesn't care about poor people. That is not a rational deduction. People should be willing to take responsibility for their actions and they should not partake in any behavior that would cause them to live beyond their means. That goes for the person on welfare, it goes for the family barely getting by on the salaries that are brought into the home. It goes for the people who win the lottery. And it even goes for the Mitt Romneys and Warren Buffets of the world. Responsibility spans all barriers. It spans financial, political, religious, moral and racial barriers. We should all take responsibility for our own actions.
