WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The NC Department of Transportation will close the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in on three separate nights beginning Wednesday to do electrical and mechanical repairs.
The closures will take place:
·From 8 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday
·From 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24
·From 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27
During these times, the bridge will be closed to all traffic. A signed detour will direct drivers to an alternate route.

Wouldn't it be easier to post when it's open?
There's an idea for a story, WWAY! An expose' of how much it costs the taxpayers ever year to maintain this outdated piece of junk. Talk about good money after bad!

The answer to the CF Memorial is either a $1.3B Skyway or a $1.3B tunnel.
Now I prefer the tunnel myself but the Skyway is a standard bridge.
With a tunnel ships can get taller and tunnels are usually well below the river bed allowing for deeper draft ships if we get to that point.
But at the core of all of this is traffic. We need to replace the CF Memorial BUT it has to have a much larger traffic carrying capacity so we won't STILL require another bridge further down stream so that puts pressure on both sides of the river.
This is a very old bridge that is in desperate need of replacement.
