Body found on I-40 in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) -- A decomposing body has been found in woods next to Interstate 40 in Winston-Salem.

Two men working on a broken down vehicle found the body around 1 p.m. Monday.

Detectives don't know if foul play was involved in the death. Investigators think the body is that of a male but are awaiting confirmation from an autopsy because of the advanced state of decomposition.

The autopsy is being performed at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Winston-Salem police Lt. Rob Cozart says investigators are not sure how long the body had been at the scene.
