WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington police officer was injured early Saturday morning after being rear ended by a drunk driver.

According to Lucy Crockett of the Wilmington Police Department around 4:37 a.m. Officer Frederick Elder was driving a marked unit in the 6100 block of Market Street when he was rear ended by 27-year-old Nicholas Lamastus of Wilmington.

Officer Elder was transported to the Cape Fear Hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation by the WPD Traffic Unit revealed that Lamastus was driving while impaired at the time of the collision.

Sad

I knew the guy who hit the cop from childhood. Would never have guessed he would have gone that route. He was so nice back then. I pray this is a wake up call for him to take a good look at his drinking and turn his life around. If it was out of ordinary for him, I hope he learns to cope and asks for forgiveness. Nick, if you're reading this- it's been awhile huh? Would be great to catch up.

Rear-ending a cop

Rear-ending a cop car.........it will take this Bozo a while to live that one down.

Bet

I would bet money that there are people in Wilmington who would say the officer was at fault for this accident. Does anyone want some of this action?

Just Because

Just because the cop was rear ended doesn't mean it wasn't his fault. Maybe he was reversing out of a parking lot/driveway into the street... Maybe the police officer was stopped in the middle of the street with no lights on.... You weren't there, how would you know who is at fault? Maybe the cop was driving in reverse the wrong way down a one way street... I guess you know everything.

Are you kidding?

He hit the officer in the rear in the 6100 block of Market Street. He failed to reduce speed, and was drunk. Stopped in the middle of the street with no lights on, driving in reverse going the wrong way. Oh my freakin God you sound like the biggest moron on the face of the earth. I doubt there is anyone in Wilmington who is as could look at your little rant and not conclude you need to be on strong drugs and put in a rubber room.

STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!
