Forest's camp cites Myrick's cancer in slamming ad

Associated Press

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- The Republican candidate for lieutenant governor is upset that a state employees' union is running a commercial he says is disrespectful to his mother, US Rep. Sue Myrick.

The ad paid for by the political action committee of the State Employees Association of North Carolina accuses Dan Forest of wanting to deny women access to birth control and cancer screenings.

Forest's campaign said that's false, pointing out Myrick is a breast cancer survivor and that Forest hopes to follow her in passing laws to fight the disease.

Association political director Kevin LeCount said Forest is the one disrespecting women. LeCount points to a questionnaire in which Forest wrote that he disagreed with continuing state funding for Planned Parenthood.

The association backs Democrat Linda Coleman.
