WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Walkers took on arthritis one step at a time this weekend in Hugh MacRae Park for the 7th Annual Arthritis Walk. The slogan was "Let's move together," and it looked like everyone had fun doing it.
Senior Vice President of Health and Wellness Nick Turkas has been involved with this event for more than 10 years. He hopes to raise awareness. He also hopes other people will join the fight against Arthritis.
"We want people to know that arthritis is a serious disease, that arthritis affects people in Wilmington and all over North Carolina, and there is something that they can do about it," Turkas said. "They can get involved in these events, and they can help others take control of this disease and raise the funds that will help cure arthritis."
Turkas says more than two-million people in North Carolina suffer from arthritis. He says the money raised by events like the Arthritis Walk help support vital research that could eventually lead to a cure.
