Port City Java asking families to host Marines for Thanksgiving

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- With November just around the corner, a Wilmington business is preparing to make the holidays extra sweet for those who serve our country. Port City Java is organizing the second annual Make a Marine's Thanksgiving Drive.

Last year, 27 families hosted more than 50 Marines bussed down from Camp Ljeune for the holiday. This year Port City Java CEO Steven Schnitzler says they are more than tripling their numbers to 165 Marines. That means they need more families to host.

Three buses will be sponsored, and three locations will be used for drop off and pick up.
Hoggard, Laney and New Hanover High Schools are the locations.

“These tend to be young Marines,” says Schnitzler. “They are from the infantry school in Camp Geiger, so they tend to be young, but they are far away from home and often times this is their first time in the military since they are just out of boot camp that they are going to be spending a major holiday away from home.”

82 families in all are needed and it's first come first serve and also depends on how close you live to all three locations.
