WWAY named top election coverage in the Carolinas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- If you're looking for the best election coverage in the Carolinas, you'll find it at WWAY NewsChannel 3.

This weekend, the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas awarded WWAY first place for Best Political-Election coverage among small market stations in North and South Carolina. The station's winning entry was it's coverage of North Carolina's primary election in May.

It was one of four first place awards for WWAY, including Best Special Report for coverage of Hurricane Irene in August 2011, Best Producer Paul Blackmore and Best Documentary for "Battleship North Carolina: 50 Years in Wilmington."

WWAY also won second place in the Best Documentary category for the ESP 3 Weather Team's hurricane special "Out of This World: Cosmic Storm." Second place awards also went to Cacky Catlett in the Best Anchor category and WWAY's coverage of the controversy surrounding the Leland Police Department in the Investigative category.
