'HallowGREEN' tips from Fort Fisher Aquarium

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Fort Fisher Aquarium is reminding area residents that Halloween can be a scary time for marine life. You may not realize it, but the choices you make when it comes to costumes, candy and decorations could negatively impact your favorite fish and other ocean creatures.

For example, all of those tiny candy wrappers add up to a lot of waste. Instead of tossing wrappers in the trash, start a pile and then take it to Fort Fisher Aquarium, where they'll recycle it for you.

Instead of buying plastic decorations, a spokeswoman for the aquarium suggests using natural decorations such as real pumpkins and squash; Robin Nelepa also said in addition to their "hallowgreen" tips people can learn about when visiting the aquarium, kids can trick or treat Wednesday and Thursday night of this week.

It's part of the "Trick or Treat Under the Sea" celebration. Get all the details when you watch Nelepa's interview with 'Good Morning Carolina' anchor Ashley Jacobs, then check out their website.
