WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Air travelers in Wilmington are feeling the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Airlines are delaying and canceling flights, including between Wilmington and Philadelphia and New York's LaGuardia Airport.
The airport is also concerned about the recovery time in the northeast. If transit systems are flooded, employees at those airports may not make it to work forcing more delays.
"On Sunday we began to see the impacts on us here, and that was mainly flights going to the northeast," ILM Operations Director Gary Broughton said. "In particular, all of the Philadelphia and New York-LaGuardia flights for today and tomorrow have been canceled, because obviously New York and Philadelphia are being hit much harder than we were."
Broughton says the traffic at ILM has died down. He expects flights to resume based on how well the northeast recovers from Sandy.
