Event aims to help veterans find jobs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Veterans gathered at a Resource Expo and Job Fair to learn about employment opportunities after their military service is completed.

Members at the Manley Reese VFW Post in Wilmington are working hard to make sure our veterans have jobs when they come home.

After years of service, the manager of the Division of Workforce Solutions office says many veterans struggle to find work.

"We've got a lot of veterans, and they have great work ethic and they know when to be at work and what to do when they get at work. They have the soft skills employers are looking for," Walker Biggs said.

But sometimes that's just not enough. This event is focused on teaching veterans how to find jobs once they come home. The expo also featured programs like Paws for Vets that can help veterans with their transition.

"Today's event is to provide resources for veterans for both their life improvement and their career improvement," said Allison Rankin, of UNCW's Office of Professional Education.

The Veteran's Resources Expo and Job Fair offered services like career coaching, interview coaching and resume help.

If you weren't able to make the event today you can contact Veteran Supervisor Joe Stanley at (910) 251-5777.
