NC warden suspended after alleged hot sauce abuse

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- The warden at a North Carolina prison where inmates said they were forced to rub hot sauce on their genitals has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Pamela Walker said Tuesday that Sampson Correctional Institution administrator Lafayette Hall has been put on paid leave while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates what happened at the Clinton facility. A second employee also has been reassigned.

Six inmates allege correctional officers forced them to perform numerous humiliating acts, including gulping hot sauce and slathering it on themselves, resulting in painful blisters. The male inmates also reported being forced to simulate sex acts for the entertainment of guards, as well as to capture and kiss wild snakes while working on a road crew.

one of the inmates is my father. this has been going on for sometime now and i think its wrong what happend justice should be served to the men hat done this and not speaking for only daddy but the others as well. i ask everyone to pray for daddy and the others in this case and all the help we could get to get it public in other places i would apreciate it. thanks. -martina

A full invegation from the FBI. Mr. Hall and his employees should all be put on adminitrative leave W/O PAY. They need to be locked up themselves. They sound like SEXUAL PERVERTS. Pick up a snake and kiss it? Sick employees at this correctional center. Don't waste tax payers money on these PERVERTS. If they act like this on the job, imagine how they treat their spouse and children. SICK PERVERTS!

goodness, gracious

great balls of fire!

You mean those criminals were VICTIMIZED...OMG..let me get my violin out! While they are in THERE, because they can't follow the rules. People like ME are out HERE working our arses off to pay so they can learn a lesson. Tell you what, next time they need some hot sauce on their genitals, hit up the jury list and I'm sure we'd be happy to do it!

I am an ex inmate. I was

I am an ex inmate. I was incarcerated in prison in nc for breaking and entering. I was strung out on crack cocaine for years and have since done my time, am clean and work my arse off now too. I have seen and have also been done in similar fashion by those empowered by the state, entrusted, not only by the state but the families of inmates as well, to ensure the safety and welfare of all concerned, both inmate and staff alike.

However, from my unique perspective I noticed that some guards and other staff were just as bad as the inmates they housed. There were threats, selling drugs, guards bringing in cigarettes, it was common practice for a certain officer to fraternize with the inmates ( not only tolerated but joked about) abuse by staff on inmates, medical neglect, abuse of authority. Talk about "Moral Turpitude"...

You should not be so quick

You should not be so quick to judge those people. You don't know what the circumstances where. Easy to sit by a computor and cast judgment.

There's a difference between punishment and torture

Torture is wrong. Hopefully, our society is civilized enough to understand that.

Just because someone is

Just because someone is incarcerated does not mean that they should be violated and abused.

think...there are some crimes that ABSOLUTELY deserve some violation and abuse!

Hey 7969, get yourself some

Hey 7969, get yourself some help. There are reasons why we in civilized society treat prisoners with some decency one among them is that there could be a wrongful conviction.... have a look here:

Lets put YOU in a cell with some of NHC's worse...see if they have any decency...I'll bet you come out with a different attitude!

hot sauce

Sounds like you may have been in prison yourself. I never thought I would, but I have a son in law there & believe me he was victimized as a child but still has a good, kind, loving heart & has never brutally harmed anyone. He did have a drug addiction, which is hell for all concerned, but believe me, there is no excuse for DOC personnel to do anything so sadistic & unprofessional. God help the ignorant.
