Wilson quiet as DOT names bridge after him

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- State and local leaders gathered today to honor Lanny Wilson by naming the bridge at MLK Parkway and 23rd Street after him.

Wilson served nine years on the NC Board of Transportation, before resigning in 2010. The move came as federal prosecutors were set to release a 51-count indictment against Ruffin Poole, a former aid to Gov. Mike Easley. Wilson was not charged but was identified in the indictment.

Wilson did not want to talk to reporters today, but we managed to ask if he feels he's moved on from the controversy.

"That's water under the bridge," Wilson said. "I have moved forward with my life, and I am happy."

In his speech, he quoted scripture and referred to today's ceremony as a new day in his life.

Lanny Wilson

Blah, Blah, Blah.

Lanny Wilson again

To name something at the taxpayers expense that an SOB like Lanny Wilson stole so much from,,,,, A man who grew up never having to sweat, a so called lawyer, an insult is what he is to this state. A political wannabe!!!!! NOT!

Waste of tax dollars

Regardless of who the individual is, naming a bridge, tunnel, roadway, etc is just another exercise in political narcissim with the taxpayers picking up the tab.

If I'm driving over a bridge, the only thing I'm really interested in is getting to the other side.

.......I believe the quote goes is "the last refuge of a scoundrel"

In his speech, he quoted scripture and referred to today's ceremony as a new day in his life.

Oh the irony of a crony of a corrupt governor or two speechless as yet one more public place is named after yet one more scoundrel. It's a shame that career politicians continue to pat themselves and their cronies on the back by naming these public structures after themselves when there are many many victims of their bad behavior that should be so honored instead.

Oh well......they call themselves honorable and hard working only because they actually believe that BS.
