Man wanted for shooting at Fair Bluff officers

FAIR BLUFF, NC (WWAY) -- Police in Columbus County are looking for a man they say fired at officers last night.

Investigators say Fair Bluff Police were called to a home on Railroad Street after a woman said she heard someone knock on her window. Police searched the area. They say they saw a man and chased after him, but he got away. Then they say someone fired three shots at them from across the road about 45 yards away.

Multiple agencies then helped in the search for the shooter. A K9 tracked him for a while before losing the scent.

Investigators say they're looking for a young, black male with a slender build, dark skin and short braids. They believe the suspect is James Earl Hemingway, who police say they've had run-ins with before. They also say Hemingway is the chief suspect for a robbery at Cousin's Food Mart in Fair Bluff over the weekend.

Gun Control

I bet those police officers wish we had a little gun control. The good thing is that nobody can hit anything with a pistol from 45 yards unless it's an accident.

Makes Sense

Yeah, that makes sense. Isn't it illegal to shoot at police officers? So, this criminal was already breaking the law? Who are you to say he wouldn't have stolen a gun or bought one off the books to use? Once America outlaws guns, the only people that will have them are criminals and police. You're a very smart individual.

1. Most LEOs are very much against gun control. 2. A pistol can still be a very viable option at 45yds. With a solid shooter, shots back to 100yds aren't impossible.
