Perdue proud of Wilmington 10 pardons

READ MORE:

ORANGE COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Gov. Bev Perdue spoke publicly today for the first time since granting pardons of innocence for the Wilmington 10 Monday.

During a visit to a school in Orange County, Perdue said she is "proud of the decision, and I stand by it."

"I think the criminal justice system's main purpose is to be fair and to ensure that all of us get a really fair, good trial based on evidence, not based on race or any kind of prejudice against our sex or our religion, and if you read some of the trial notes, clearly there was overt prejudice and racism involved in the Wilmington 10," Perdue said. "These men and one woman have been persecuted for more than four decades, and it was time to right this wrong."

Perdue's term as governor ends Saturday when Pat McCrory takes the oath of office in a private ceremony.

Down payment

The Guv aka Beverly the demented, just made a small down payment to her fan base for the future.

As a Governor, she was a total failure.

Remember her comments about suspending elections for "the good of the country"?

Just remember this when another Democrat wants the job. Will they too wait until the last hour, and grant concessions to The Reverend Barbour and the irrelevant NAACP.

When the money runs out, and common sense see's a rise, she and her party will still pander, and grovel at the feet of the NC church activist that carries his own tent on his shoulders.

Revoke the tax exemptions for church's that promote political activism instead of service to God.

Bev Perdue

Is Bev Perdue,by chance, related to Brian Berger? No wonder every thing political is in such a mess.We have so much incompetense in elected office, from local to Washington.

May 12, 1977 Wilmington Star News - Burgaw - "Allen R. Hall Wednesday angrily denounced the Wilmington 10 arson-conspiracy convictions as a frame-up and said he acted alone in burning down a white-owned grocery store during racial unrest in 1971."

That didn't take long....

It seems ole Willie Vereen is seeking compensation. That pretty much opens the door for all of them to do the same. Hey bev..... you willing to foot the bill here? I thought not. Yet another skid mark for your reign.... pfft.

They can open all the doors they want...

...and what they find behind them will be empty nothingness. It's what they deserve.

Of course she's not

going to foot the bill.

Let the incoming administration, which already faces mountainous fiscal issues she and Easley created, to foot the bill.

Praise to Perdue

Most people are goin to be shocked when the movie Wilmington on Fire comes out. Its about the massacre of 1898 when wilmington was mostly african american . Groups of white mobs tried to wipe out african americans in the city burning black business and homes. Wilmington 10 was nothing compared to this!!!!

Absolutely, fireman joe....

Absolutely, fireman joe.... in 1898 there was a legitimately elected city government which was violently overthrown.

The difference....

Is that you can't go back and persue a court case against anyone involved in the 1898 riots because no one is alive now, but you CAN hold Wilmington 10 accountable because (most) are still alive.

It was all about money from the beginning...it makes me sick because I lived through the fear and war-mongering that they stirred in our town. Now they will be rewarded for it. Disgusting.

Finally!

I knew someone would finally climb out from under a rock and try to justify the actions of the Wilmington 10 based on the "massacre of 1898".

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Now crawl back under your rock.

So proud, she waited till

So proud, she waited till the 11th hour, to do it. Today, Justice suffered at the hands of a Political Payoff.

Beverly you are a fool, now

Beverly you are a fool, now you have turned these criminals loose on us again, since you commuted them they will be able to pry on the public once again, with the same priveleges any other conscious law abiding citizen does, glad to see this state finally getting rid of retarded politicians one by one.

Saturday can't come fast enough

Purdue is just pathetic. She has done nothing for our state, and caps her tenure off with a horrible act. What an empty legacy, pandering to murderers and scum.

She has no right

She has no right to make remarks about the case like "there was racist remarks made at the trial" she was not there and should not put her opinions to it. She can not go away fast enough, she will be remembered as the worst governor in north carolina history.

Who's Next?

Isn't wonderful that the Gov has yet to provide any explanation as to why she pardoned the Wilmington 10. It was a different world then and Wilmington suffered in many ways on both sides of the color divide. What has been gained by this? Nothing but grandstanding.
Maybe she will pardon Blance Moore Taylor so she can make some more pudding

Way to go Democrats....

My father in law went to school in Wilmington during the time of the crimes. These low lives burned stores owned by white people and then bragged about it in school. Two of the S.O.B. s were in his class.....Let me guess what you have planned next??? Arming teachers without drug testing them??? Sad sad times for NC.....

Democrats

So you are saying that your father in law talked to the two in his class and the other white kids in the class talk with them also?(LOL) you know there is no truth that that statement.

Yes

That is what I am saying. Can you not read or let me guess, you cant comprehend. (LOL) He and I were born here and are locals. He was born in 1952 and a local business owner for over 35yrs. He actually told me about the Wilmington 10 about a year ago. I knew nothing about them until he mentioned going to school with them and what they did.

yes

Iknow for a fact that your father in law didn't talked to the two in his class. The kids that wanted to say something were to afraid to because they didn't want to be called @@@@@@ lovers. So like i said there is no truth to him talking with them or them bragging to any white kids that they did anything. For the record ask him about the R.O.W.P group and the cross burning in Hugh Mcrae Park.I also was born here.

She did the right thing

She did the right thing !!!!! Enough said !

It was the right thing to do

I don't know if they are innocent or not, but this thing has been going on for years and it's time to put it to rest. There was so much that was wrong with the prosecution of this case it was inevitable the convictions would be overturned. I never bought the story about snipers on the roof and on the belfry of the church shooting at the grocery store over a block away. the cops and firefighters testimony surmised it came from the church which was in the dark( street lights were out due to the curfew) All they could see was muzzle flashes. Same story when the cops were at 5th and Nun. All they could see was muzzle flashes coming from somewhere on Nun in the direction of the church

Doing the right thing

Tell your story to the man who died and the family that owned the store that was burned. See how well they agree with your posture.

Yeah right...

Next you will tell me if they didn't do it,they knew who did. All these people on this forum who claim to have known and seen firsthand what happened but they never said a word 50 years ago. You didn't speak up then and now you want to rage about these people being pardoned?

Pardons

Sure man...next you are going to say we should pardon Osama bin Laden for 9/11 or Hitler for the autrocities against the Jews.

Their actions were and still are completely unjustifyable, regardless of alleged prejudice in the legal system. Have you forgotten the legal system is prejudice, against criminals.

They were domestic terrorist then and still are domestic terrorist now. They may of been pardon by the ex Govnernor, but they are not welcomed in my home or neighborhood.

Right the wrong?

Gov. Perdue says it was wrong, but what was wrong? Was it wrong to notice when these people came to Wilmington in 1970 it started to burn? Wrong to notice their influence was a cause of the terror that the citizens of Wilmington endured for a year or longer. Who were the racists then? The pot calling the kettle black, I'd say. I want to know why the killer(s) of three men in Wilmington were never caught. The press never speaks their names. They are the forgotten victims. Donald Flowers was an unarmed Pinkerton man guarding Williston School. I don't know the other Pinkerton man's name. They and their families have never seen justice exacted for their murders. All of the Wilmington 10 lived to see another day.

wrong

Have you ask yourself why the gaurds were at Williston.See a group of people broke in the school and tried to destroy it.So gaurds were put in there. Now ask yourself who were these people and could they have killed Donald Flowers and the other Gentleman.(R.O.W.P)

Wilmintton 10 killed no one

The most likely killers of the two Williston school guards were the Rights of White People, whom we know broke into the school and trashed it the night before school. The Wilmington 10 were not even suspects, let alone perpetrators, of those killings. The very idea that law enforcement had any evidence that Ben Chavis killed someone and did not prosecute him is ridiculous. They arrested him practically every time he left the house.

Who done it?

I highly doubt your assertion that it was ROWP. I believe it was somebody who knew the lay of the land very well, leaving a calling card because of the location where they were found.

Let the $$$$$$ flow

Thanks again FleetGhost for another nice comment and touching on the Pinkerton guards families still waiting on justice, which we will never see. But what we will see is the millions of dollars that this boneheaded move by Beverly Purdue will cost. I bet they are already looking for lawyers to sue the state for compensation for the past 40 years. We the taxpayers will be stuck with that bill.. Thanks again Bev and good riddance!!

the wrong

Are you saying the wilmington ten committed those murders.I never read that anywhere.Murders go unsolved all the time. If the WPD had any information to say they did it.It would have been done.
