Wilmington 10 members to get pardon certificates Saturday

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- An ecumenical service this weekend will celebrate the pardoning of the Wilmington 10. The service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Gregory Congregational Church on Nun Street in Wilmington.

The surviving members of the Wilmington 10 will receive their pardon certificate.

Monday, Gov. Bev Perdue pardoned the group accused of conspiring to set fire to a Wilmington business in 1971. They were convicted and sent to prison, but later had their convictions overturned on a technicality and their sentences commuted.

I should have been invited

For all the trouble I went through at Williston School! It changed my life too, but at least I walked away with mine as did the Wilmington 10. Three men did not, a man driving through town during the rioting and two unarmed Pinkerton men guarding Williston. No justice for them.

Can you recieve compensation

Can you recieve compensation from behind bars because I say that at least 8 out of the 10 will be back behind bars, and speaking of which, deduct all their fees they failed to pay from whatever they think we owe them and they'll still owe us money, Perdue just proved how low she'll stoop and how racist she really is, I bet she hates her white parents, this is sad for the state of NC.

Certificates

I think she should come here to Wilmington and hand them out herself. If she was so bent on pardoning these people and letting them out on our streets again, and in the end knowing that it will cost us all because they all are going to seek compensation, I think she should be the one to personally hand these certificates to these terrorists. Let her personally tell them how sorry she is for what terrible things they went through, what injustice was served to them, no matter what buildings they burned or fear they stirred in all of us during that time. Let her promise them that life will be different from now on and that we were ALL wrong (the scared-to- death citizens, the police, the fire fighters, the witnesses, the judge and jury), but THEY were right, no matter what terror they brought to our city.

But, uh, no. That isn't going to happen. Do you know why? Because Bevvie pulled the "punch, duck and run" move, mostly intimidated by the NAACP. "Here ya go Wilmington...take that!" Now, have fun rewarding these terrible people with a little ceremony and exhault them.

A Wonderful Gesture by a Brave Woman

Thank you Governor Perdue for doing the right thing and bringing some closure to an incident that was unfortunately like too many others in my beloved Southland during those troubled times. We just don't like change here.

Blacks and other

ethnic minorities have more to worry about than sticking it to whitey. It's time for change....

other

Who in the hell says that?

Wilmington 10

I think that those of us that were children during this time should file a lawsuit against Perdue and the Wilmington 10. I remember being 11 years old and being scared to go to school. We couldn't go to church, really couldn't go anywhere. A school board member lived near us and he had a bomb threat so we had to leave our home. Remember they burned down Lums restaurant.
We were traumatized as children as they get off? NOT FAIR

wilmington 10

Can we sue the klan and the R.O>W.P for the trauma they caused the community during that time or have you forgotten that.

TWEETY11

I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE, BUT DIDN'T THE KLAN CAUSE TRAUMA TO BOTH BLACKS AND WHITES? IF WHITES MINGLED WITH BLACKS, DIDN'T BOTH SIDES SUFFER?

Willie Vereen

has already said he'll seek compensation. Expect the others to follow suit.

Where's mine?

Judged innocent, they may see fit to demand compensation for their time and trouble. How about the rest of us who suffered in fear for our lives because mystery somebodie(s) saw fit to terrorize the city?

wilm 10

Oh yeah. That is want they all want. Wonder if our idiot of a governor will be there to give them the big bucks they also want. Who is going to pay for that? I think we should garnish her state pension to help put a down payment on what is yet to come. But this dont mean they are innocent. God knows the truth.

MIKES GROCERY AND WHO EVER

MIKES GROCERY AND WHO EVER ELSE WERE VICTIMS, NEED TO SUE THE WILMINGTON 10 FOR COMPENSATION AFTER THEY GET THEIR MONEY. TIT FOR TAT. THEY WERE GUILTY. PERDUE? GLAD SHES ON HER WAY OUT.

Only the lowest of the lowly

Know this guy. sorry to say, for you.

Anyone who is in the professional therapeutic or social services system who MUST associate with him knows he is a gamer. As well, his homeys on the street.

He BELIEVES that HE IS A CELEBRITY. MLK Day Parades have mocked the true victims and the victims familiies with parading the Wilmington Ten as Heroes, celebrities and important figures.

By the way, about Vareen, Have you read his illiterate book? Maybe he had an illiterate ghost writer. Wonder how many MILLION$ he made from that self published piece of junk?

He was destined for a world of slime long before his 1972 incarceration and continuouse low level street crime, and subsequent arrests and perpetual states of gritty homelessness.

Who cares. I know the actual lawyers that will FIGHT this for the Justice of the victims.
