Brunswick County Sheriff's Office mourns loss of one of its own

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Brunswick County Sheriff's Detective Kyle Jones, age 41, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday.

According to Captain Highsmith, no foul play is suspected.

Detective Jones was a 19 year veteran of law enforcement. He served the citizens of Columbus County from 1994 until 2000, and served the citizens of Brunswick from 2000 until his death.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook Monday that it is mourning the death of one of its detectives, Kyle Jones.

"The BCSO has lost a friend and coworker tonight and ask that you keep the Jones family and this office in your prayers," the post reads.

Another post was added to the page just before midnight, with a picture of Det. Jones, reading, "Detective Kyle Jones, Brunswick County Sheriff's Office; at rest 14 January 2013," with a caption that says "God's Speed."

Jones was among the dozen candidates the Brunswick County Democratic Party considered to serve as sheriff after Ron Hewett resigned in 2008. At the time, Jones was a member of the Sheriff's Office's Drug Enforcement Unit.

I wish that I could dry my eyes long enough to construct a respectable paragraph that would encapsulate what a great guy and friend Kyle Jones was to me. My condolences to the bereaved family and friends that are feeling the same way that I am right now.

I have known Kyle for many years and worked with him while at Bald Head Island. This is a tragic loss for his family, friends and co-workers at the Sheriff's Office. My prayers are with them all, especially his family as they try to find solace during such a difficult time. Thank you Kyle for your committed service to the citizens of Brunswick County.

Thinking of Kyle's family, and as well, the Sheriff's Office. I send my best to all. And, keeping all in prayers. He will be sorely missed.

Such sad news. I have had the pleasure of working with Kyle over the years, he has always been the most polite, and easiest going detective I have had the opportunity to work with. My heart goes out to all of his family, friends, & co-workers.. He will be missed. Prayers of healing & peace for all .. Dick's Pawn North

I just found out the terrible news. Kyle was my ex brother-in-law. He was a wonderful, funny, loving friend, husband, and father. My sincere condolences to his wife Lisa and daughter Reyde.
