WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The North Carolina Azalea Festival has a new way to describe the annual event that's become a staple of Wilmington culture: Southern Charm in Full Bloom.
The Azalea Festival chose the new tagline as part of a contest on Facebook to get input from the community and add what it calls a personal touch to the celebration. The contest let the festival learn what the spring tradition means to the people of Wilmington.
Wilmington resident Janey Roth submitted the tagline "Southern Charm in Full Bloom." The festival says it won over other finalists in a narrow margin of the hundreds of votes cast. The tagline will be featured in 2013 North Carolina Azalea Festival materials.
"We are continually looking for ways to expand the visibility of the North Carolina Azalea Festival throughout the region and beyond, and this year we take special pride in having a tagline that not only represents the festival perfectly, but that comes from a member of the community sharing what the festival means to them personally," Azalea Festival President Donna Cameron said in a news release. "We feel truly honored by the overwhelming response from the community, and it was a special opportunity to learn what the festival means to so many local residents."
As the contest winner, Roth will receive an Azalea Festival Prize Package valued at $450, including two VIP tickets to festival concerts, two Celebrity Reception tickets to sit at the Queen's table and entry into the Azalea Festival Parade in a car provided by the festival.
The Azalea Festival runs April 10-14.
