'Men in Pink' support breast cancer patients

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The "Men in Pink" are making a statement at Cape Fear Community College this Valentine's Day.

Their pink clothes are a show of support for the Pretty in Pink Foundation, which provides financial assistance to breast cancer patients who do not have health insurance. Last year they helped almost 500 women across the state.

The "Men in Pink" are always holding events for people to participate in and help raise money.

"The sad thing is the number of requests that we are getting for financial assistance is growing tremendously," Pretty in Pink Program Director Joy Wade said. "Right now we have about 110 applications on our desk of women who will qualify but we just need the money to give them their life saving treatments."

Every penny helps save a life and stays within the area to help local patients.
