NCDOT Sec. addresses licenses for immigrants, I-140 construction

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The newly-appointed secretary of the NC Department of Transportation made a stop in Wilmington Friday.

Tony Tata joined other dignitaries at a luncheon hosted by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Before the event got underway, Tata addressed his department's decision to issue driver's licenses to qualifying immigrants, saying it's a matter of public safety.

"Most of these deferred action folks were driving anyway and so now, we will have them registered, they will have insurance, they will have licenses and they will be in the database," Tata said.

Tata also said funding has been secured for the building of I-140 across the Cape Fear River into Brunswick county. He says the project will get underway this fall.

Interesting

This is very interesting in that Tata was just appointed by Pat McCrory. This is Tata's first big decision. McCrory doesn't seem to mind at all. Most conservatives (myself included) want the illegals back home, south of the border. Bush leaned the same way. Why is this? Something tells me that McCrory is no better, maybe worse than Smiley. This is an outrage.

Wake Up!

There are legal Americans (born in this country) driving locally around here from other states...have been living here for a while...without an NC license or auto insurance (i.e.)>(leaves the scene of an accident).
When will they address that situation? Answer: Never!

I think the qualification

I think the qualification needs to be that they are here legally.

That's funny right there. I don't care who you are!

Hey Tata, First you have to make them get a social security card and most do not plan on staying here. Most work here and send money home to their families. Then after several years they return home.
Second, if they were driving anyway, then why get a drivers license to drive.
Third, I-140 is already over the Cape Fear River, it just needs to be completed to the other section.

Sorry, I-140 is over the

Sorry, I-140 is over the Northeast Cape Fear River not the Cape Fear River. Still got to build the bridge over the Cape Fear behind Sutton Plant.

Really, so our NCDOT rep is admitting that these "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS" that are here illegally are also thumbing their noses at our laws and are driving anyway!, so his brainstorm is to have them registered, (is that gonna be a legal or illegal status) aquire insurance(which they have not done in the past, hence you are forced to carry uninsured motorist) and they will be in the data base(god only knows what that means. This is one guy that needs to be fired effective yesterday!

We need to get them on

We need to get them on welfare, in-state tuition and free healthcare.

Uhhh, They're already doing that.

Why do you think our government needs MORE tax money?
